Palma de Mallorca
A visit to the grand gothic cathedral, built between 1230 and 1600 over looking Palma bay, is imperative. Visitors stand amazed before its towering heights, intricate architecture and the curious Gaudi sculpture that is suspended from the ceiling. Alongside the cathedral is the Almudaina Palace built from the remains of and ancient Moorish edifice, which now serves as the home to the Mallorquin Royalty. The winding streets of this neighbourhood all accumulate at the Arab baths which are a defining character to this part of the city. In this area we can also find a masterpiece of gothic architecture; la Llotja, which is now a museum of art. To the east of the urban centre one can see the impressive Bellver Castle, the only entirely round castle in Europe. The old quarter is probably the best for a night out, full of bars and pubs where one can enjoy music, dancing and tapas. The centre of Palma has much to offer however the newer areas are more dispersed and take longer to travel around.
