This enchanting village owes much of its renown to Frederic Chopin and his lover George Sand who passed their famous winter in the Cartuja de Valldemosa (1838-9). More recently the actor Michael Douglas inaugurated the new Cultural Centre for the North Coast. A few kilometres away one can find the old residence of the Archduke Can Marroig which is now open to the public. The village is well worth an explore, for despite its small size it oozes with charm. Those with hardy stomachs may wish to brave the twisting coastal road over the mountain down to the port of Valldemosa, a picturesque hamlet with some good restaurants offering sumptuous sea food.
